Transportation

By land, air, or sea, there are many options to explore Rhode Island and, specifically, Aquidneck Island. There has always been tried-and-true public bus transportation but there are so many other cool means of getting around. Check out the free trolley service in Newport or the multiple fast and fun ferries that hop between waterfront ports. We have quaint water taxis in the harbor, bicycles, e-bikes, and scooter rentals, and, of course, the very trendy LSV tailor-made golf carts. Don’t forget about the convenience of renting kayaks and paddleboards and take advantage of listening to summer concerts while chilling in the beautiful Narragansett Bay.

Tours

History. Beauty. Coastline. Aquidneck Island is rich in all of it. You owe it to yourself to take a tour, any tour, of our beautiful city by the sea and surrounding towns. If you’re up for adventure, soar above Newport and Bristol counties on a helicopter tour getting a bird’s eye view of our beaches, mansions, and lighthouses. This one is on our bucket list! We also have walking, driving, or hybrid tours that can be catered to your interests so if you want to know more about the Colonial Days or those pesky pirates or who built Fort Adams or how the wealthiest lived in those Newport summer ‘cottages’, find the tour that peaks your interest. There is absolutely something for everyone!

Talent

Wet Paint is more than a fundraiser—it’s a tradition, a platform for connection, and a meaningful way to celebrate and support the artists who make our community vibrant.

This year’s theme is “Back to the Future” because we are bringing back the traditions that have defined Wet Paint for thirty-two years. Please note: this theme does not have to be reflected in the work you create.

On Saturday, August 9, the Museum’s campus will come alive with an in-person silent auction, music, food trucks, local fare, and family-friendly activities. The day culminates in our high-energy live auction, celebrating original works and the creative spirit of this belo

Termites

Home inspections are a great opportunity to “look under the hood” of a house. A major concern people have when looking at older homes is termites.

A termites’ diet primarily consists of cellulose found in wood, paper, and cardboard. In nature, termites help clean up dead trees and other plant material, feeding off the cellulose in these materials. However, when present in homes and structures, a termite’s appetite for cellulose can cause severe damage.

Depending on the termite species you’re dealing with, signs of termites in your house may look different.

The best way how to tell if you have termites is to look for these common termite infestation signs:

-Termite swarmers

-Hollow-sounding wood

-Blistered floors

-Mud tubes

-Frass or pellets

A colony of termites can have over a million individual members, hungrily munching away at any wood they get close to. Termite colonies are a complex social network consisting of a queen, workers, soldiers, and other reproductive termites. Depending on the species and each termite’s social status, a termite’s life cycle can last anywhere from two to 50 years, and a termite colony can survive indefinitely.

If you see signs of this reach out to a local expert for a consult.
