Over the decades, beachgoers have watched in amazement as families turn everything from old Volkswagens, dog houses, and bathtubs into makeshift sailboats using tarps, duct tape, and bedsheets. Once construction wraps up, the crews must attempt to navigate a 500-yard downwind course. While ribbons are handed out to top finishers across multiple size classes, the real glory lies in the specialty awards, where teams proudly compete to take home the title for the “Most Ingenious Design” or the highly coveted, tongue-in-cheek award for the “Worst Example of Naval Architecture.”
