While the calendar may say summer starts June 24th, summer in Newport kicked off in style on Memorial Day weekend, with the City by the Sea in full swing! The month of June brings beautiful bouquets (and flower shows), delicious fruits and vegetables, and an urge to get out there and enjoy the sunshine.
Strawberry picking season is upon us. Checkout the Quonset View Farm or the Sweetberry Farm websites for the most up to date picking schedules. If you don’t want to do the work, just stop into their farm stands and grab some of the freshest produce on the island!

Bouquets…
The traditional kickoff to summer in Newport is back! The Newport Flower Show: Eden…A Personal Paradise, will take place June 17th, 18th and 19th, with the Opening Reception taking place on Friday, June 17th, at Rosecliff, from
6:00 -8:00 p.m.
Opening night is a celebration with hors d’oeuvres, drinks and music while admiring the fresh floral exhibits and horticultural extravaganzas. Stroll the Garden Shop area on the back lawn, where a select group of vendors will offer garden-related items for sale. Don’t miss the Preservation Society’s Museum Store featuring flower-related home décor and gifts.
This year’s Flower Show will include:
• A central garden exhibit honoring the Presenting Sponsor, Bartlett Tree Experts.
• The Floral Design Division with floral designs inspired by the show theme.
• Botanical Arts Exhibitors showcasing designs of dried plant material with themes representing fantasy necklaces, a mini cover-up, and serpents ready to strike.
• The Horticulture Division: beginner and skilled gardeners bring their best plants and flowers cut from their gardens for judging and display.
• Cour d ’Amour garden exhibit highlighting the whimsy of Green Animals Topiary Garden.
• Shopping in the Newport Mansions Store along with a small selection of curated vendors featuring garden-related items.
Tickets are by advance purchase only and specific by date and time block.
Baseball…
Local baseball is back for the summer and a great outing for all ages! Opening Day for the Newport Gulls is Wednesday, June 8th, and games are played on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 6:35 PM.
About the Gulls…The Newport Gulls are a wooden-bat, collegiate summer baseball team based in Newport, Rhode Island. The Newport Gulls Baseball Club is a member of the Southern Division of the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL).
